We hope you will consider joining the Board of Directors!
Friend of the MCA... If you have found this page, then perhaps you are interested in joining the MCA Board of Directors. Below you will find our recruitment letter, describing the current Board's intentions and hopes for the future of the organization. This is a volunteer Board, and as such, know that you can contribute as much or as little of your time and effort as is suitable to you. We have outlined some of the basic responsibilities you should expect below, but beyond that your role is self-defined.
Current Bylaws
The current bylaws were created, amended, and approved, and can be read at the link below. Should a new Board choose to make further amendments or changes to these bylaws, you will have the ability to do so.
Board Seats
There is presently a requirement of 5-12 seated members on the Board of Directors. This amount can be decreased or increased by vote. The State of Vermont requires a Treasurer and Secretary but separate of those two designated seats, everyone else on the board currently shares status as co-directors, and chooses for themselves their vested input based on personal interests.
Responsibilities
The primary requirement and minimum responsibility of any board member is attending regular meetings. Currently, the Board meets once-a-month via zoom and our meetings last for approximately 1 hour, give or take. In the past, we have changed our schedule to meet quarterly, and occasionally a special meetings may be called to address a unique circumstance or necessity.

The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining accounts by paying bills, keeping track of debts, coordinating on any grants or loans, and maintaining fiscal records.

The Secretary should expect to compose the meeting agendas, take minutes, and file any necessary permits, legal documents, or state filings in order to maintain non-profit status.

Other board members can opt to contribute in a variety of ways as appeals to the individual. For instance:
-
soliciting users of the space
-
coordinating a special event
-
maintaining membership records and mailings
-
updating the website
-
posting on social media
-
etc.

A future board may define their role as best suits the members and the organization. Perhaps a future board may choose to take a more reserved approach, and simply act as a host for the site...or may change the requirements of use of the space...or may expand the mission of the organization...or could choose to restructure the rental arrangement...or could develop an internship program...

However you choose to facilitate the use of MCA and the arrangement of the board shall be up to you.
